Tips on How to Perform Water Damage Restoration

Flooding can happen at any time to anyone, whether down to a natural disaster or accidents in the home, like and overflowing bathtub or toilet. Water damage can sometimes be avoided when a homeowner acts quickly enough, this is why water damage restoration tips must be closely followed. One of the first steps is to ensure you dry all surfaces as much as you can, use equipment such as a wet-dry vacuum, mops and even towels depending on the severity of the case. This must then be followed by installing equipment such as fans and air conditioning, as they will further dry out the affected area. Lastly, any flooring must be removed to ensure the area beneath is dry, which will prevent further permanent water damage, like mold and mildew.

The first step can be performed by the homeowner. If the wet surface is made from laminate, tile, or hardwood, a mop can be used to remove the bulk of water. Carpeting will normally take longer to dry out; however, the process can be sped up by placing down absorbent towels, and standing on them to make sure as much of the water is soaked up as possible. A wet-dry vacuum can be used also. In more extreme situations, a sump pump could have to be used.

Once the bulk of the water is soaked up, the next thing to do is placing fans around the affected area, this will also help to dry things out. But, it must be noted that the more fans blowing at once, the better the job will be done. Industrial strength fans are especially good for water damage restoration, and they can be rented. Another tip is to switch on your air conditioning, this will help to dry the floor in the summer; however, in the winter, windows should be opened to remove any excess moisture from the home.
